Digital Hanging
Scales
There are many different kinds of digital
hanging scales. They can be used in postal or retail applications. Many versions are “legal for trade”, so sales
can be made based on the reading of the digital scale. Some have one specified use; other scales are appropriate for many different
purposes.
Most can be found in retail applications
ranging from grocery stores to hardware stores to post offices. Some digital hanging scales are much larger, with
lifts to weigh heavy objects. Hanging scales also come in much smaller, portable sizes; several models are sold for
weighing the fish you catch on a fishing trip.
Digital hanging scales usually have a loop of
some kind at the top of the scale for hanging on a ceiling or other support. They have a digital display to show
the weight. These scales vary greatly in their accuracy; some can only measure in full ounces while others can
display small fractions of an ounce.

On a digital hanging scale,
below the digital display, there is a way to hold the item being weighed.
Commonly this is an S-hook,
although some models have a pan, basket or other specialized contraption depending on the specific
use of the scale.

Because the object being
weighed does not need to sit still or fit into a basket of a specific size, hanging objects are
often used for weighing difficult objects.
With a basket, common uses
include the weighing of produce or loose objects, such as screws and nails.

Digital hanging
scales vary in their capacity and accuracy. Both of these affect the price; they vary from around thirty dollars to
upwards of five hundred dollars. Some include heavy duty construction or a larger, easy-to-read
display.
